Mean of transportation: Mountain bike equipped with steel frame and 21 gears, bought in a secondhand shop and paid 50 euros.
Ordinary maintenance: 8 couples of tires; 6 replacements of chain, bears and gears; 3 cart bridge, 5 brake pads replacements.
Extraordinary maintenance: 42 flat tires; 11 spokes breakdown; 1 frame welding; replacement of both rim.
Difficulties: Temperature over 50 degrees Celsius in the Iranian and Pakistan deserts; seized in Pakistan, suspected of international nuclear espionage; climbing over 5000 meters on the foreigners forbidden road of Tibet; long distance in Africa and eating food
with a low energetic level; malaria in Tanzania.
Equipment: Tent, sleeping bag, fuel stove, pots, torch, breathable and waterproof jacket, clothes, photographic equipment, maintenance bicycle, spare parts (spokes, tubes, glue and patches, tape, iron wire, oil).
Useful stuff: Medicines (plasters, bandages, disinfectant, antibiotics, ant inflammations, scissors, injections and needles, needle and thread for auto stitches, lip salve, sunscreen, eyewash), needle and thread for mending, photocopies of the documents, passport size photos, guides, dictionaries, candle, lighter, personal hygiene effects.
Documents: Yellow fever certificate, passport, medical insurance, prescription written in English.
Money: Cirrus and Plus, Visa or Mastercard credit cards; around U$D 1000 cash (many embassies don’t accept euros for visa fee).
